美聯冠軍賽第一戰，印地安人靠著Francisco Lindor的關鍵2分彈，率先在系列賽開紅，也幫球隊在投手戰中取得領先，加上先發投手Corey Cluber的6局無失分好投，以及後援投手的強力守成，印地安人以2：0終止藍鳥在10月的4連勝，在主場拿下系列賽的第1勝。
今天比賽上半場，雙方先發投手Cluber以及Marco Estrada都展現強大壓制力，沒有讓對方的打者打下任何的分數，因此前5局打完，雙方仍以0：0戰和。
上半場得分機會明顯較多的藍鳥，久攻不下的結果造成士氣慢慢轉換到對方身上，6局下半，Jason Kipnis在一出局後，靠著四壞保送站上一壘，接著打擊的Francisco Lindor，抓中Estrada內角的變化球，掃到右外野的全壘打大牆外，打破雙方的僵局，幫助藍鳥取得1：0的領先。
取得領先的印地安人，立即換上Andrew Miller上場中繼，他也不負眾望的主投1.2局，僅被Josh Donaldson敲出1支安打，還用犀利的滑球賞出5K，幫助印地安人守住城池。
9局上印地安人把比賽交給守護神Cody Allen，結果他讓藍鳥後段棒次三上三下，輕鬆地結束掉最後一個半局，終場印地安人就以2分差擊敗對手，系列賽取得1：０的領先。
印地安人王牌Cluber今天力投6.1局，被敲出6支安打，雖然上半場危機不少，但是他總能適時抓到出局數，沒有讓對方越雷池一步，聯手後援的Miller和Allen，完封打擊火力凶猛的藍鳥，沒有讓對方擊出致命的長打，是本場比賽左右輸贏的關鍵。
